Michael Fisher WNY TeachMeet

If any of you are interested, especially if you work in education, Angela and I are part of group that is planning a "Teach Meet" which is essentially a Tweetup, but extends beyond Twitter. It's also called an "unconference" where we keep the best parts of a staff development conference and scrap the rest. It's very informal. It will be on May 30th, 2009 at Genesee Community College in their Cafe. For more information or to register, we've set up a wiki at… Continue

michaelcardus Team Building: Mentally challenge team comfort

Within a team building program participants are encouraged to do things that scare them, to push their comfort zone to create and connect new brain based synapses and discover new ways of approaching and solving problems. To empower yourself and teams to see people and feel experiences in a way that at one point seemed impossible. Managers and leaders are encouraged to create procedures and policies that encourage people to follow proven "trails" to create a measurable outcome, ma… Continue

Keith Burtis The Irishman Pub & Eatery

pub & Eatery.jpg I work from my home office and at times it can get a bit lonely so today I decided to take a ride in my car and check out a popular local lunch spot in a neighboring town called The Irishman Pub & Eatery. My hope was that I would be able to get a good solid healthy lunch, free wifi, and great service. I got all… Continue

Tracey McNerney To Tweet or Not to Tweet…Using Social Media in PR

I posted this on my own personal social media blog, but thought it might make for interesting discussion in this group. Imagine for a moment that you are a Public Relations Manager and are looking to distribute your company’s story about a new product or initiative. Newswire services allow you to reach large groups of traditional media — newspapers, radio and television stations. Email and telephone help you to contact your favorite reporters directly. And of course, you post your inform… Continue

michaelcardus Corporate Team Building & Leadership: Silence is your strength

Recently I was facilitating a team of 15 - a group that wished to enhance their team skills by creating a culture of empowerment. As I progressed through the training I saw that when I posed a question and asked the team to spend some time (generally 3-5 minutes) planning how they would solve the team building activity - all I heard was silence. Then after about 10 seconds their manager would jump in and tell the team what to do, assign roles and delegate tasks. During the break time I met wit… Continue

michaelcardus Items that were on my desk when I was terminated

Personal Team Building Consultant story; Some of you who read my blog know that before I started Create-Learning-Team Building I worked as the Workforce Development-Team Building Director for a local conference center. Things did not end well between the them and me. If you want to hear that story contact me. I am rather transparent in the story (although realize it will be biased.) I was abruptly asked to not return to my former employe… Continue

michaelcardus Ropes Course + Challenge Course. Challenge Existing Paradigm of TeamBuilding & Leadership Development

Ropes courses have their fit with team building and leadership development, if properly facilitated any experience can be metaphorically tied-back to work life. The challenge for the consumer wanting a ropes course experience is to have realistic expectations of what can be done. Climbing walls have gone the way of Ping Pong Tables, Everyone has one and all they are used for is Beer Pong Courts" -Anonymous Why Ropes Courses are not the proper fit for your Team Building program.… Continue

Tracey McNerney Karen's Crusade/CAID Softball Tournament

Hi All-- The Second Annual Crusade Against Impaired Driving Softball Tournament has been scheduled for August 15, 2009 at Sunshine Park in West Seneca (I know it's only February, but it's never too early to think about warm weather, a good game of softball and a great cause!).
