Buffalo Tweetup

The Social Media Revolution in Buffalo, NY!

I'm looking for your help in helping promote the Ride for Roswell. I've been volunteering my time and have been focusing on their social media efforts. I want to spread the word about the Ride's Twitter account and encourage you to not only follow the Ride on Twitter, but encourage your friends as well. Follow the Ride at:

http://twitter.com/RideForRoswell

For anyone in this group who is riding, we have a Ning site at:

http://rideconnect.org/

We will be ramping up our activity as the Ride approaches and will be covering it live on Twitter and other social media channels. The hashtag we are using is #RFR. I will be tweeting live as I ride in the peloton, and we will be encouraging others to actively use Twitter as a backchannel. We are going to be working with UB to provide computers and projection equipment at Baird Point to allow people to tweet and to display the backchannel.

Finally, if there is enough interest, I'd love to have a Tweetup at the Ride on Saturday, June 27, at UB's Baird Point. This would be for both people who are riding and those who are not. We really want to showcase the power of social media so the more people we have "covering" the event, the better. For those of you who wouldn't be riding, I'm sure the Ride would provide some food and beverages for your time.

Please let me know if you have any other ideas about how we can promote the ride.

Thanks -

Mark Greenfield

I will be participating in the Ride for Roswell. Any other tweeters riding?

I'm not riding (Relay for Life is my limit) but I'd be inclined to join a Tweetup to cover the event. I owe Roswell great amounts of gratitude for the excellent care they've given me over the last several years. What time does everything kick off?

Things start off with the peloton which leaves Roswell Park at 6:30 AM. The main rides start at UB from 7:00 am - 11:00 am. I am riding in the peloton and will get to UB at 7:30. The best times to help cover the event will between 7:00 and 12:00. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

For more info on what we are doing that day, see:

Social Media and the Ride For Roswell.

Thanks!

I think thats a great idea. Whats the date this year? I'll get something set up for the evening return party. If Mark wants us to cover it with blogging, podcasting and video I think that might be fun. We can ask the UB tweetup group and Buffalo Bar Camp Group as well.

Mark - interesting Use case. I'd be glad to chat with you anytime. E-mail me - keith@keithburtis.com or give me a call 716-464-8938. You have a lot of potential, but I would think that your best bet would be to focus on next year. Social media is not really a short burst effort in my opinion. If you can get 5-10 flip cams or small camcorders you can really get a lot of footage and trim up a bunch of small video clips that you can use to share. It's also nice to get personal stories, interviews, and tug on the heart strings of potential riders and donors. Iv'e ridden in the race a few times myself and the cause is amazing! There are many ways to leverage social media, feel free to give me a call or email.
